Not Totally “Loosey Goosey”
If you’re following #Serial, you’ll know what I’m referencing. I’ll take the hit for confusing prom king with homecoming king, but in my defence I wasn’t going to high school with these kids. Volunteer EMT and star track runner FTW:
Serial Episode 5: Let’s Talk About Cells, Baby
Not only do experts debunk the idea that a cell phone’s location can be determined from assuming the tower it “pings” is closest to it, courts have actually excluded cell tower evidence, finding it unreliable as to the location of the phone at the call. Across the country, cell phone evidence based on mapping the towers being hit is now under legal attack and scrutiny:
Serial Episodes 3 & 4: What Tangled Webs
Whether or not you believe Adnan is innocent, like I do, we can all agree on this: only Jay knows the absolute truth. The only real conclusion I draw from Jay’s inconsistencies is that I don’t believe him. He is not reliable, yet he has more information than anyone else and admits to dumping his clothing, shoes, and shovels.
Serial Episodes 1 & 2: The Alibi Mystery and Dating on the DL
Ok, so a little unpacking. It should be clear from Asia’s taped interview with Sarah earlier this year that she was not ever pressured into writing the letters or the affidavit. If she had been pressured, she would have certainly told Sarah, who is interviewing her not long after the post-conviction hearing. The family didn’t know who Asia was, I didn’t know who Asia was. If there was going to be any pressuring, what sense does it make that she would be pressured into writing letters, and an affidavit a year later, but never pressured into appearing for trial? Or that the lawyer was never pressured into calling her to the stand during the trial? If she had been pressured, why didn’t she say that to Sarah?
Splitting Moons
The lesson here for me is that regardless of whether heavenly hosts are supporting you, you still have to do your best in this world, walk the talk, even respond to critics, but realize that there will always be critics. And that’s ok. Do your best and leave the results with God.

Life Plus 30: Murder, Lies, and the Anatomy of a Wrongful Conviction
I’ve carried the burden of not being able to do anything for Adnan in a permanent corner of my heart for years. It’s a place of deep grief and I can rarely talk about him or the case without crying. The pain of it has not dulled over 15 years and it remains precisely because I’ve felt like a failure. It remains with every letter, with every time we saw him in prison garb and shackles, with every time I saw his parents or little brother. It remains because the community in which he was raised forgot him. I hold a deep resentment towards the community for it. Other than my own siblings and parents, everyone abandoned him.
